January 2023: The Connection Between Porn and Domestic Violence
Culture Reframed is the premier science-based, global organization working to stop the emotional, behavioral, and sexual harms of pornography to children and youth. Join our online community to receive updates on our work, announcements of upcoming events, and the latest news related to pornography and youth.
This month’s newsletter focuses on some of the harm that the multi-billion dollar porn industry inflicts on our culture and our lives — from its influence on child-centered social media to its role in domestic violence. Awareness of the impact is the first step. Understanding how to protect ourselves and our children comes next.
At Culture Reframed, we are committed to spreading information about these issues and helping parents and caregivers keep their children safe from hypersexualized media. The work of our community and other organizations joining our fight is making a difference. We’ve highlighted a few examples in this newsletter.

How the Pornography Industry Has Hijacked Social Media
“The social media world is where the kids are, but it’s also where the predators are,” notes Culture Reframed’s Program Coordinator Dr. Amanda Sanchez in this presentation from Culture Reframed’s virtual event, “Pornography & Prostitution: Connecting the Dots.” In this session, she highlights the most popular social media platforms accessed by young people today and exposes how they have been hijacked by the porn industry. Dr. Sanchez provides examples of how social media platforms fuel sexual exploitation and prostitution, from the exchange of sexual currency in livestreams to the grooming and recruitment of young people into prostitution and sex trafficking.
The Connection Between Porn and Domestic Violence
Our latest white paper explores how pornography influences domestic violence, both physically and psychologically. The paper defines domestic violence, identifies its ties to pornography, and argues that eliminating porn can help reduce all types of family violence.
